Immersion Reading helps me focus
I’ve found the Immersion Reading option through the Kindle app has been very valuable. This feature allows you to both read and listen to a book at the same time.
I find that when I’m only reading with my eyes, my mind tends to wander, regardless of whether I’m using a Kindle or physical books. If I only listen to an audiobook, my eyes take over, and I start looking at things and distracting myself. If I close my eyes, I tend to doze off.
Reading the book while listening at the same time has enabled me to stay focused. I suppose it’s because I’m keeping both senses occupied. It’s also keeping me at a set pace, since I’m following along with the audio. When I’m only reading words, I tend to jump around and skip a lot.
I’m currently using this technique with the book Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin.
